Refunds & Cancellations

Entry refunds can be made by the 22nd of April.(less 20% administration fee) Refunds will not be given after this date.
Event will be rescheduled to the following day if there were adverse weather conditions.
In the event the race being cancelled on both days 50% of entry fee will be refunded.

  • All paddlers contesting the Paynesville course must reach Metung (14km distance) with in TWO HOURS. This will prevent water safety resources being delayed at the rear of the field on those who are not up to the full 27km distance. If a paddler does not meet the required time limit, they will be withdrawn from the event at Metung. The time limit may be extended on the day depending on weather conditions. You can change from the Paynesville course, to the Metung course on event day if you are not confident on making the 2 hour cut off time.
  • You are required to present all mandatory safety gear at registration.
  • Any craft apart from those that have entered the event which is on the course will be removed.
  • I Can Confidently Exit Or Roll My Sea Kayak From The Upside Down Position.
  • I Can Confidently Remount Any Event Craft If I Need To.
  • Crafts that don’t meet regulations will not compete.
  • All crafts doing the Paynesville course must carry a orange smoke day flare and a mobile phone in a waterproof case.
  • All Competitors Are To Wear There Own High Visibility Clothing, Vest & Hat.
  • Red, Pink, Green or Yellow. NO Hi Vis Gear. NO START.
  • Paddlers will be numbered on both there left leg and arm.
  • All Sea Kayaks must have watertight bulkheads & to be using a skirt & carry bailing bucket or pump. No watertight bulkheads, no start.
  • Sit on top kayaks may take up to 2 hours to complete the Metung 13 km to Lakes course, competitors need to be aware of their ability.
  • All crafts except Sea Kayaks are to use a leg rope/boat leash.
  • 12 years to under 15 years of age can only enter on a doubles craft with a 20 years and above partner on the Metung course.
  • Minimum 15 years of age to enter the Metung to Lakes Entrance course on a single or doubles craft.
  • Minimum 16 years of age to enter the Paynesville to Lakes Entrance course.
  • All Competitors under the age of 18 needs to have the event declaration signed by parent or guardian and have form with them on event day.
  • Only Australian Standards PFD 1 or PFD 2 life jackets are to used and appropriate clothing for all weather elements.
  • Bumbags Inflatable Lifejackets can be used on SUPS or Outrigger Canoes.
  • Sea kayaks may use sails.
  • Entrants are advised that between Paynesville & Metung you may experience open water conditions this is for the experienced paddler only.
  • Metung entrants be aware of your limitations as you may experience open water conditions.
  • Scrutineering of crafts will be done before race for compliancy & safety.
  • Rescue crafts are provided for water safety not for salvage of craft.
  • Judges decision will be final.
  • The organising committee has the right to change the either course if required due to extreme weather conditions.
  • The event will be reversed in case of inclement weather.
  • If the event was cancelled for any unforeseen reason it will be held the following day starting at 8am.
  • On event day the Paynesville course may be redirected along the south side of Raymond island instead of the planed North side if there to be unfavourable conditions.
  • Paynesville entrants can change to the Metung start if they are not confident on the day if there were unfavourable weather conditions.
  • Any starter who leave the course and does not complete the event will not be eligible for a prize.
  • You must complete the event and be at the lucky draw to be eligible to win a prize. Saturdays event at the surf club at 4pm onwards.
  • Sundays lucky draw will be at the Rotunda 200 meters east side of the footbridge. approx.. 10am
  • I am physically fit and have adequately trained for this event. By the date of the event, I will have completed the distance in a single training session.
  • I am able to swim continuously for 400 metres unaided.
  • I have been assessed by a medical practitioner as being physically capable of successfully completing the event.
  • I hereby consent to receive any medical attention, including ambulance that may be deemed to be necessary in the event of injury or illness. The cost of such action will be met by me.
  • My image may be used by organisers for any promotional use.
  • I have read, understood, and agree to the race rules as published on the event website.

Indemnification And Release Of Liability

In return for the Club (SLSLE) allowing me to participate in the Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge
I agree:

  • To assume and accept all risks arising out of, associated with or related to my participating in the Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge.
  • To be solely responsible for any injury , loss or damage which I might sustain while participating in the Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge.
  • To hold harmless and indemnify the organizers of the Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge;
  • From any and all liability for any damage to the personal property of, or personal injury to, any third party resulting from my participation in the Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge and all related activities.
  • From any and all claims, demands, actions and costs which might arise out of my participating in the Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge;



I acknowledge that I have read this agreement, that I have executed this agreement voluntarily, and that
this agreement is to be binding upon myself, my heirs, executors, administrators and representatives, in
the event of my death or incapacity.
